Tales From the Trenches, vol. 1

Valerie and I are traveling to sunny Florida today, and it reminded me of a time traveling to the west coast with a colleague of mine. I was at my usual window seat enjoying the never boring surreal nature of flying when I was asked, "Aren't you going to take advantage of the time and get some work done?" I simply replied, "I am working." Much of my devoted work time is spent just thinking, not even specifically about the day's events or what to write, but good old fashioned unorganized thought. The less I verbalize or put into words, the better the outcome, it seems. I can't live and breathe music, and I would suggest to young musicians to do the same. Find that "something" that helps you abandon not only music, but language as well. Just feel it.
